Below are pics of horses and donkeys that have come into our lives in just the last few years. Most of them were found at auctions were they were in danger of going to slaughter or were so ill that no one wanted them.  We were able to find great homes for most of them but a few were just too sick to make it.
Snickers was rescued  with a broken left hind pastern at 8 weeks of age.  He spent 6 weeks in a cast and was eventually  sound with only a slightly bent pastern .  We were able to train him to ride and he was rehomed at age 4.Midnight was bought at an auction as a 2 year old.  She was trained and became a great kid's horse.  Rehomed.Nester was bought at auction and was our first donkey. He was the stable mascot for stables for several years until rehomed.  He was one of a kind!Mudd was a 20 year old Warmblood Gelding that I got from another rescuer.  He has since found a great forever home!Doc Frosts Fancy was a 25 yo AQHA mare by Docs Jack Frost.  She was so thin that the auctioneer asked me to take her.  She filled out and became one of our favorites. She was one of the sweetest mares I've ever had. She had a good life in her last years. She passed away from colic early in 2009. Princess was a 20+ yo Tennessee Walker Mare that was rescued from auction.  She was featured on Fugly Horse of the Day.  I was able to rehome her and she has a great forever home..Moolah was suffering from a bad case of Navicular when we purchased her.  We gave her a natural trim and supplements and she showed a 75% improvement within several months.  Rehomed.Titan aka Cisco was a 20+ TB Gelding auction rescue that I was able to rehome almost immediately.  He taught his young rider how to ride and will be greatly missed.  He passed away of natural causes late in 2008.Lil Nick was a colt that was sent to auction at approx 2 weeks old.  We bottle fed him faithfully for over a month but despite our best efforts our vet advised us to put him down.  He is resting under his favorite shade tree in our pasture.Mason is a 25 yo Appaloosa Gelding auction rescue that was so thin I wasn't sure he would make it home.  He became a favorite of mine and with proper care gained all his weight back.  He foumd a great home last year.Chester was a 30 year old Andalusian Gelding that was rescued from auction.  He has since found a great forever home!Holly was a 20 year old QH Mare that was rescued from a neglectful owner.  She had bad feet and was very thin.  This is a pic of her after a month of good feed.  She has been rehomed.No one wanted Precious when she went thru the auction ring.  She was too lame for the slaughter buyer so I took her home to end her misery.  She was euthanized the next day.  She was 18 years old.This guy was a 5 yo OTTB Gelding that had won over $80,000.  We outbid the KB and brought him home.  After x-raying his knees it was determined that he couldn't be saved and was in too much pain to go on.  He was euthanized in 2008.Cowboy was an 8 year old Appendix Gelding that I purchased at the Seguin Auction.  He had a bad hip and need time to heal.  He is doing well and has been rehomed.Happy is a 20 plus QH Gelding that was previously donated to another rescue.  We bought him at an auction.  He was a roping horse in his younger days and we were told he went to the NFR.  He has a forever home pending.Will was a 20 + QH Gelding that was given to me out of the slaughter buyer's pen.  He had been thru too much and  just gave up.  I hope he knew he was loved in his last days.Bugsy the Holstien Calf and Spanky an orphaned colt. The colt was given to me by the KB when he was 1 month old.  His mother had been sent to slaughter. I was able to find him and Bugsy great homes!Gal is a 20 yo Mare that we bought at an auction.  She came here thin and bounced back immediately.  She was rehomed late last year.Sundance was neglected and his hooves were so long he could hardly walk when I bought him last fall.  He has recovered and is doing great.Oso was a 20 + yo former camp horse that was donated by Keith Ranches.  He was partially blind but one of the most gentle riding horses we've owned.  He was adopted by a family in Houston and will have a wonderful forever home with them.  Special thanks to Shari Frederick of Happy Horse Haven .Diesel was purchased from the KB .  He was sound, approx 10 yo and trained very well.  He has been adopted by a rancher in South Texas.Dori was a 30 + yo Welsh Pony that was put on our bill at the auction.  She was so pitiful that no one would bid.  Her feet were badly neglected amd she was very thin.  She is doing great now and is a companion to a younger horse.Duke is a 20+ yo retired ranch gelding.  He was purchased from Keith Ranches and is an excellent riding horse.  He has been adopted by M Barnes and has an excellent home..Junior is a BLM Mustang that was trained to ride by my daughter.  He was her first horse that she started from the beginning.  He has been adopted by a family near Houston, TX.Joe is a 20+ yo gelding that was given to my by another rescuer.  He has been adopted by a friend in Seguin, TX.Quincy is a 20+ yo mare that was rescued from a neglectful home.  She is an excellent riding horse and has been adopted by a young girl and her family.Sweetheart is a 20+ yo mare that was dropped off at my place in very poor condition.  She was adopted by a friend of mine in Seguin, TX. He has been adopted with Oso to a family near Houston.  Thanks to www.happyhorsehaven.com and Shari Frederi;ck.Dozer was a 20+ yo Ranch Gelding that I got from Keith Ranches.  He was one of a kind.  I used him for lessons and he was my husband's favorite trail horse.  Sadly Dozer passed away suddenly from an undiagnosed heart defect.  RIP my friend ...You won't be forgotten!Remy is a cute gelding that I purchased from a friend of mine  in Nov 2011.  He has since been rehomed.Rocky is a colt that I purchased from auction so I could ensure he found a great home.  He is a super sweet little guy and found a home right away.Manny is a cute little guy that I found at an auction.  He is super sweet and has been adopted by a good friend where he is now best buddies with 2 young girls.Big Mama was my niece's horse.  She was purchased from auction several years ago and was trained by Reggie Talamantez.  She was an excellent mare amd was used for heeling, lessons, pony parties and trail riding.  She now belongs to a good friend that willl be using her for roping and barrel racing.
